Programs & Services

Hospice provides practical assistance and emotional and spiritual support that helps individuals and their families live through the life changing journey of grief and loss.

Dedicated, compassionate and caring volunteers provide:

Knowledgeable guidance to help families make death a meaningful experience and minimize the occurrence of future regrets;

• Helpful information related to death, dying and bereavement and other available resources;

• Decreasing fear and anxiety by being fully attentive and using healing touch on request;

• Emotional and Spiritual support and understanding;

•Companionship and caring; and

• Practical assistance of shopping, writing letters, reading, planning funerals, tending plants and pets, making tea, grooming and other comfort care.

The Palliative Care Program includes:

• One-to-One Support

• Hospice Volunteer Visitor Program at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Cumberland Care Centre and in the Community

• The Bereavement Care Program includes:

• Initial visit/assessment

• Individual counseling up to 6 sessions

• Grief information

• Referral to Hospice Support Groups

• Referral to related agencies

• Support groups as needed in the community

• One-to-one volunteer support

The Equipment and Bed Loan Program

The Equipment /Bed Loan Program includes:

• Transportation & set up of hospital beds for clients in their homes; and

• Loan of pressure relief mattresses to clients in need.

The bed loan program takes at least two gentlemen with big hearts and any number of volunteer helpers! Phil McLaren fixes any mechanical problems with the beds on a volunteer basis. Webster Electric has fixed our electrical problems with the beds and has not charged us for the work. Rowan Ley continues to offer countless hours to keep this effort functioning.
