The Fascinating Story of a Unique History

The Sointula Museum offers a unique educational experience. Its collection
includes artifacts, publications, and photographs specific to the development of
this community from a Finnish socialist commune to the quiet village of today.
The 100 year history of the settlement from its utopian beginnings involves the
development of socialist thought in Canada, the building of the commercial
fishing industry, unions, cooperative economic structures, and, through it all,
a spirit of community with a special message for modern times.

The Sointula Museum is pleased to announce completion of a new wing that
effectively triples our display space and allows both a climate controlled area
for delicate materials and a research station for casual and academic
applications. The Sointula Museum wishes to thank Community Economic Adjustment
Initiative, Vancouver Foundation, and many local donors whose generosity made
this development possible.
