How to Submit Information to the HWE Surnames List:

~ In order to submit surname info to the HWE Surnames List, you must be a subscriber (member) of the HWE mailing list. If you are not a subscriber but would like to join the list, please click on subscribe.

Once you're a HWE subscriber, here's how to submit your surname information. Please read the following instructions carefully.

~ Surnames do not have to be of proven Huguenot/Walloon origin although it is preferable if such origins are likely or strongly suspected.

~ There is no limit to the number of surnames you can submit.

~ Send your submission in the form of a post (message) to the HWE mailing list. Do this as a *new message* (ie. not by clicking Reply to a previous post).

~ Include a relevent subject line in your post (ie. one which has not been used in a previous post but, instead, a new one which includes info about your submission such as a surname, date, location, etc.).

~ In your post to the mailing list, arrange your info in the format you see on the HWE Surnames List: ie. in the following manner --

SURNAME(S): date & location > date & location, etc.

~ If you're not sure how to arrange your info in this way, have a look at how details are arranged in existing entries on the HWE Surnames List. If you're still not sure, contact the list administrator (see address at bottom of this page).

~ Note that, for reasons of space and for ease of organization, no first names are included on the HWE Surnames List. Therefore, submit only surnames in your information. Be sure to include all spelling variants that you are aware of.

~ Since HWE is a European-oriented list, each surname entry should mention at least one European location. Similarly, non-European info should be kept to a minimum. For example, you can specify a North American state or province (which may or may not be included) but please omit town/city and/or county. If this requirement will be a difficult one for you -- ie. if you have little or no European info -- please contact the list admin (see address below).

~ In your post to the mailing list, you may choose to add further details which "flesh out" the specifics of your research. These details, in sentence/paragraph form, would be in addition to the "bare bones" of: SURNAME(S): date & location > date & location, etc. Adding further details will make your post more interesting and may also increase the chances that another subscriber will be able to help you with useful info.

~ Shortly after your message has been received on the HWE mailing list, the list admin will transfer your surname entry/entries to the relevent page(s) on the HWE Surnames List.

~ If you already have entries on the HWE Surnames List but need to update the info, please post those updates to the mailing list, as outlined above. However, if you only want to change an invalid e-mail address, there is no need to post to the mailing list. Simply contact the list admin (see address below).
