How to unsubscribe from (leave) the list:

You can unsubscribe from (leave) the list at any time. It's easy if you follow these instructions.

a) Begin by starting a new message in your e-mail program. That is, do not use the Reply or Forward feature which includes text of previous messages you've received.

b) Use the same e-mail address that you used when you subscribed. The Rootsweb automated system will reject your unsubscribe request if you use a different address, ie. it will not recognize that you are the same person using two different addresses.

c) Put only the word unsubscribe in your message and in the subject line.

d) If you're subscribed in list or mail mode (ie. receiving each list message individually, usually several each day), address your unsubscribe message to: Huguenots-Walloons-Europe-L-request@rootsweb.com.

If you're subscribed in digest mode (ie. receiving list messages all together, in a group, about once a day), you should address your unsubscribe request to a slightly different address which is: Huguenots-Walloons-Europe-D-request@rootsweb.com.

e) Send your request. Shortly after you've done this, you should receive an automated message from Rootsweb which confirms that you have been unsubscribed from the list.

f) If you receive an automated message from Rootsweb which begins by saying: "You have not been removed. Your name was not on the list.", this means that your unsubscribe request has not been successful. There are several reasons why this may happen:

* You have already unsubscribed and, therefore, are no longer on the subscriber list.

* The personal e-mail address that you used when unsubscribing was different from the one you used when you subscribed.

* You are subscribed in digest mode but you sent your unsubscribe request to the address for list mode (see item d above).

* You are subscribed in list/mail mode but you sent your unsubscribe request to the address for digest mode (see item d above).

If you have followed the instructions outlined on this page but still cannot unsubscribe successfully, please contact the list administrator for assistance (see address below).

~ Changing your e-mail address? If you change your e-mail address, you will need to unsubscribe yourself from the list, using your old address, and then re-subscribe yourself, using your new address. If this is not possible, contact the list administrator for assistance (see address below).

~ Mailbox full? You should be aware that you could become unsubscribed if your e-mailbox becomes so full that there is no room for incoming messages. In this case, Rootsweb will try repeatedly to deliver messages to you but, if unsuccessful, will unsubscribe you automatically. Because your mailbox is full, you will receive no notification of this fact and will probably be unaware of it, at least for a while. You can, of course, re-subscribe to the list but you should make sure that your mailbox remains clear so that this situation does not happen again.

~ Going on holiday? It's a good idea to unsubscribe temporarily if you are going to be away from your computer for more than a few days (eg. on holiday). Just unsubscribe when you want the list messages to stop. Then re-subscribe when you want them to start again. You can catch up on any list messages that you missed while you were away by going to the list's threaded archives.
