Fernando Sor

Fernando Sor

Most players of the classical guitar perform at least one piece of music by Fernando Sor, (1780-1839). Called the Beethoven of the guitar, Sor's compositions are noted for their simplicity, expressiveness and elegance of form.

Sor's Twenty Studies for the Guitar is an important collection of works widely performed by students. In his day, Sor was an important performer and was the first guitarist to perform with the London Philharmonic, playing his Symphony for guitar and strings on May 24, 1817.
