"They Pass Your Way"

They pass your way young soldiers,
their names we'll not forget.
They marched to tunes of glory,
with the cadence of a vet.
Their pipers played their chanters,
the drones made mystic sounds.
The tune an ode to soldiers,
who'd fight on foreign ground.
Their pace was slow and steady,
a metronome to sound.
They marched to tunes of glory,
they died on foreign ground.
Their battle now is over,
They'll hear our pipes no more.
They are marching to Valhalla,
on a far and distant shore.
They'll rest there in Valhalla,
where the sun will always shine.
Where the mist clings to the mountains,
until the end of time.
Where pipers play their chanters,
and drones make mystic sounds.
And tunes are played for soldiers,
who died on foreign ground.

Hello,
My name is Deborah Anne.  I am the daughter of Ronald Harvey Taylor. I was just
over 1 year old when he died, so I didn't know him. Thanks to my mom, Joan I
have heard alot and have been given many things belonging to my dad. I typed my
dad's name in and came across this site. Seeing his name is very strange, I
somehow feel connected.

THANK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART.

I was directed to your site by a friend and was pleasantly surprized at it's
quality and intent. It's a crying shame that in this era of politicians paying
homage to every nutbar group that might return a few votes for them, that
veterans in general are considered only as a drain on the public purse and at
the very best, are simply tolerated. What you and the other Chapters are doing
will fill much of the void left by a government that wants nothing more to do
with it's 'former employees'. Thumbs up to all the CAVUNP members who have
devoted countless hours in making this happen.

BC Veterans plates - serving members need not apply!

Being quite familiar with the enabling legislation in Ontario and Nova Scotia, I
thought that I would soon be affixing new plates on my vehicle. However, that is
not the case as the eligibility criteria in BC, although virtually identical to
that of Nova Scotia and Ontario contains one significant difference. To apply in
BC you must be “honourably discharged” while other in provinces you
must have “served honourably”.

I've been told by the office staff of the Pacific Command, Royal Canadian
Legion that the door may open up next year which will allow other classes of
veterans to be deemed eligible to apply for the plates however, I would suggest
that the damage has been done.

I would further suggest that this circumstance is quite typical of the way
modern day vets are viewed by many in veterans "advocacy" groups. It seems they
convinced the licensing authorities, perhaps even inadvertently, that our
service is not worthy of recognition. God forbid a current CF member with
decades of honourable service would even think of considering himself to be
amongst those “true” veterans. I find it most amazing that currently
serving, modern day veterans, as defined by the Government of Canada, can be
full members of a veterans group yet are ineligible for veteran's plates...

What would I like to have happen? The criteria should be immediately opened up
to allow serving Canadian Forces members who meet the definition as a veteran be
afforded the opportunity to access the plates as is the case in Nova Scotia and
Ontario. I trust that several thousand Canadian Forces members currently serving
in the province of BC could be also honoured in the same fashion as those who
served before us.

It's good to know this site exists and recognizes our efforts over the years and
most espectially during our peacekeeping duties.  I'd be much interested in
hearing from those having served in Cyprus in the early years.  If not many of
us are left, then it would be of interest to hear some news from others.  The
meeting in Victoria is a definate possibility ..... if I find the secret to
shaking down that damn money tree in the back yard.
Take care, Doug

Found the site when I was looking for information on my UNFICYP tour in 88/89.
Didn't even know that the group existed. May attend the AGM in Victoria, out of
shear curiousity.

Wonderful website. Your Chapter is certainly "setting a standard" for others to follow (and aspire to). I am a new member of CAVUNP and currently very actively-engaged in organizing a new Chapter in the Muskoka, Simcoe and York area (centered out of Barrie, Ontario). We hope to get rolling by the end of January/04 and our (tenative) Chapter name will be CENTRAL ONTARIO CHAPTER. If any of your members or readers have any Peacekeeper-friends residing in this area (Newmarket, Bradford, Barrie, Bracebridge, Huntville, Orillia, Keswick "etc") who might wish to become a member of our new Chapter; please have them contact: Mike Comeau, 28 Davey Blvd., Bradford, Ontario, L3Z 1M3 (905-775-0616). Any assistance will be very much appreciated.

Very nice and informative site. Brings back many memories both happy and sad.
I've been searching for an old friend for the past few years by the name of Percy Rankin. We served together at CFB Halifax. Lost touch with him when I went to Middle East. If you are out there Perce sent me an e-mail. Or if anyone knows where he's at let me know SVP. by the way I was postal corps at the time and Parce was a PERI.

Hi, I would like to invite all members of your organization to take a look at my web site and hopefully join in my campaign to create a special medal to make it more obvious that UN Peacekeepers are Nobel Peace Prize Laureates and need more recognition as such. The site is self explanatory and hopefully we can get a large enough membership to put pressure on the government and the UN to produce such a medal to identify us as Nobel Peace Prize winners. The Canadian Peacekeeping Medal does not do that!

ALL Nobel Laureates receive a medal from the Nobel Committee and a sum of money and I see no reason why we should not at least receive the medal. Thanks

Great Website!  As I stated on the phone, I truly believe that the motto for your
chapter should be "Leading By Example!"  Your chapter deserves a hardy pat
on the back for all the work that has made it what it is today.  If 2002 is any
indication of what is to come, then I truly look forward to seeing what 2003 has in
store.  Please send me a calender of events as soon as one is compiled as I would
like to attend some more functions in Victoria this year.  Keep up the good work!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen

As a member of CAVUNP it is always nice to go to a site and see what the other Chapters are doing. Victoria is doing a fine job and are setting a example for other Chapters.  They are always willing to help and advise other Chapters.  We the LGen RR Crabbe Chapter in Winnipeg,MB. wish them continued success as they draw closer to the AGM in Victoria. For you other people out there the support and direction from the National President and Executive was been top grade.  I would suggest to you that if there is a Chapter in your area check it out.  Be one of the boys in blue. Continue good luck to you all.
