    The many sites and activities of Nanaimo, Ladysmith, Chemainus are no more than 30 minutes away.

    If you are taking some time on Vancouver Island, historic Nootka Sound, accessible through Gold River, is worth your interest.

    We lived in Gold River for many years. A 1.5-hour drive west of Campbell River on Hwy 28, Gold River is a picturesque small community with golfing, fishing, swimming, camping, caving, and mountain climbing.

    Strathcona Provincial Park is en route to Gold River, and its many nature walks and trails are accessible from Hwy 28. From short walks to world-class mountaineering, Strathcona has something for everyone.

    On the boundary of the park, halfway along Highway 28 from Campbell River to Gold River, is the vibrant Strathcona Park Lodge & Outdoor Education Centre. Here you will find access to the park, but also delicious meals and lots of supervised outdoor activities for kids and adults.

    MV Uchuck III is a coastal passenger freighter that departs from the wharf at Gold River. You may see whales, sea lions, and otters, but you will definitely see the most breathtaking scenery!
