THE WEST COAST AND NOOTKA SOUND

If you are taking some time on Vancouver Island, historic Nootka Sound, accessible through Gold River, is worth your interest.

We lived in Gold River for many years. A 1.5-hour drive west of Campbell River on Hwy 28, Gold River is a picturesque small community with golfing, fishing, swimming, camping, caving, and mountain climbing. www.village.goldriver.bc.ca

On the boundary of the park, halfway along Highway 28 from Campbell River to Gold River, is the vibrant Strathcona Park Lodge & Outdoor Education Centre. MV Uchuck III is a coastal passenger freighter that departs from the wharf at Gold River. You may see whales, sea lions, and otters, but you will definitely see the most breathtaking scenery! www.mvuchuck.com
