How Much Will It Cost?

Factors that influence the cost of an Index
1. Average number of index entries per indexable page
One page is defined as approx. 250 words, and an indexable page is any material (words /diagrams/ pictures) that can be accessed through the index. An entry is any access point including synonyms, overlapping terms and main headings. The more entries there are per page, the more time it will take to index. Canadian rates can be anywhere from $3.00 to 6.50 per indexable page.
2. Difficulty of the subject material
If specialized knowledge is required in order to index the material, or if there are a large number of terms or names
per page, these factors will enter into the cost.
3. Special issues
If there are space limitations or the project must be completed in a very short time, these will influence the cost. A collection of essays by different authors will take more time to index than a book by one author. Working from preselected terms will take more time than if vocabulary choices are left to the indexer.
4. Worthy causes and non-profit organizations
I will occasionally index projects published by non-profit organizations where in lieu of payment I receive a 'donation in kind' tax receipt.
