Engineering

The engine room console, this is the area where the ship’s engineers monitor the various ship’s mechanical and electrical equipment. Gauges along with electronic monitors are used to help spot any concerns the engineers should investigate. From this area the ship’s engineers can control all areas of the ship’s propulsion equipment as required to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.

A view of one of the two engines on C-Class vessels. These engines develop 5,500 horsepower each and are connected to the propeller shafts by a gearbox arrangement. The ship is designed as a double ended vessel therefore by using various engine-gearbox arrangements the propulsion can all be sent to one shaft or split to supply both propeller shafts together as during docking. Engineers constantly monitor the engines and the various engine components along with performing regular routine and preventive maintenance on all the ship’s equipment.
