through the Panama Canal.
MV Bainbridge renamed the Jervis Queen when purchased by BC Ferries.
The MV Chinook was built in Seattle in 1947 for the Black Ball Line. Renamed the Chinook II when it came to Canada. The vessel carried 83 automobiles and 670 passengers and was later the M.V. Sechelt Queen while with BC Ferries.
M.V. Langdale Queen was originally launched in Philadelphia in 1903 as the AsburyPark. It served New York and then on to the San Francisco area as the City of Sacremento,
next on to Washington State where it became the Kahloke under the Black Ball flag. Finally on to the Dogwood Fleet of BC Ferries where it was renamed the Langdale Queen. This 80 car ferry was retired
in May 1977 after serving mainly the Horseshoe Bay-Langdale run.
SS Smokwa, steam powered was a Halifax harbor ferry Scotian in its previous life before joining the Dogwood fleet. Old timers
say the ferry was mostly under tow while it tried to service the Howe Sound run.
BC Ferries started to build their own ships in 1959 and have relied on BC shipbuilders ever since, with only a couple of
outside purchases, the Queen of the North (former Stena Danica) and The Queen of Chilliwack. (former Basto)
