Visits

Promoting the human-animal bond through visits with therapy pets

Individual volunteers with their pets, or groups of PATS volunteers visit all types and all levels of care facilities, homes, hospitals, (including Acute Care), schools, and institutions.

Over 50 facilities are visited.

Also, home visits can be arranged.

Our normal visits are on an individual basis, and usually last for approximately 1 hour.  The visits are with various friends in the facility.  We have found though, that bonding forms with certain folk, and all three receive blessings through this friendship.
We have had several breakthroughs, with folk smiling and talking, where the staff have stated that this has never happened before.  We have been asked by relatives to visit sick children, and spouses.  It is a very rewarding activity.
With this type of therapy, we have to remember that there is a sad time as pets' lives are so much shorter than ours, and also that many of our friends in the facilities die, and our four-legged friends become upset, besides ourselves.
Despite this, we would not change our volunteering experience.  We love it, and its rewards are unbelievable.
