PANTERS HOCKEY JUNKET

The seventh annual tournament was held January 12th and 13th at Oceanside Place. A Tuesday evening Hospitality event at the Bayside Inn featured, besides a nice buffet dinner, a panel discussion involving ex NHL ers, Wayne Bianchin, Ed van Impe and Jerry James who also won a Gray Cup with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The panel was moderated by Hall of Fame sports caster, Bernie Pascall.

Results are at the Panters site

Panters President Bob Carpenter thanks those who contributed, "John Ogle must take credit for chairing and organizing this year’s event, taking the reins from Bill Kennedy and Al Greir. I wish to thank all other Panters and PGOSA members who helped and always help these occasions become successful. I wish also to acknowledge Parksville Sports Traders, Pacific Western Breweries, AGS Business Machines and McDonalds who provided sponsorship."

He also said the tournament division of Panters hockey has made a donation of $1200 to District 69 Minor Hockey to provide equipment and registration costs for three specific young players who would otherwise not be able to play.

Panters Hockey has also committed to sending three teams to Victoria to compete in the Victoria Playmakers tournament to be held March 16th to 21st. Al Greir will manage the 70+ team, Jack Verspagen is looking after the 65+ group and Cal Hood will is organizing the 60+ team.

SPRING VARIETY SHOW!

The grass is growing and the early flowers are coming out! Think Spring and help with the Variety Show planned for April 15th.

Dress to the theme is optional, but there's more fun in wearing bright tropical colors given that everyone is "Lost On A Tropic Isle". Cost - members $20, Guests $23.

Plans are well underway and there is plenty to do - arranging the dinner, providing drinks, decorating, staging and, of course, the great cleanup routine.
