ANIMAL CONTROL

The SPCA--Parksville, Qualicum Beach and District Branch performs Animal Control duties for the Regional District of Nanaimo (areas E, F(vicious dogs only), G, and H), the City of Parksville, and the Town of Qualicum Beach.

These contracts include Patrols and the impounding of dogs found to be running at large. If your dog is missing, please contact us at 248-3811 to make sure it has not been impounded!

We also respond to animal control complaints. The bylaws vary in each area so if you are experiencing a dog problem, please phone us at 248-3811 to find out what the bylaws are in your area! There are currently no bylaws pertaining to cats in this area but if you are having problems with cats you can certainly give us a call and we can hopefully make suggestions as to how to deal with the problems!

We will also receive strays which are brought to us by members of the public. If you have found a stray, please phone us at 248-3811 and give us a description of the animal. Dogs or cats may have ear or flank tattoos which are very helpful in tracing the animal's owner. If you can, please check the animal for any such identification. We can also take a "found" report from you if you are willing to hold on to the pet until the owners can be found / notified.

LICENCING is required for all dogs over the age of six months in British Columbia. Licences are available at the shelter and are valid for the calendar year.

  • Parksville, Qualicum, RDN(area E,G,H):
    • Spayed or Neutered: $15.00
    • Not Spayed or Neutered: $25.00
  • Area F:
    • Spayed or Neutered: $5.00
    • Unspayed Female: $10.00
    • Unneutered Male: $13.00
There are some discounts available if licences are purchased before the end of January, within one month of the dog turning six months old, or within one month of moving into the area. Check at the shelter for details.
