Lineage to the Thought Transformation in Eight Stanzas

The Kadampa lineage dates back to the Indian Scholar Atisha (982 – 1054) who was instrumental in the transmission of Buddhism to Tibet.

Born into a noble family in Bengal and inclined toward the religious life from a very early age, Atisha rose to prominence at the Buddhist University of Nalanda. He traveled to Tibet in 1042 at the age of 60 and died there 12 years later.  He composed several works on Buddhism including Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment, which he composed for his disciple Dromdön.

Dromdön was principally responsible for establishing the Kadampa Order and Reting Monastery, the main seat of the Order.

What follows is Thought Transformation in Eight Stanzas by Geshe Langri Tangpa Dorje Senge, a famous Lama in the Kadampa lineage.  The instructions were written at the request of his student Geshe Chekawa, who had asked for a teaching that would ‘hit the mark’ and give meaning to his spiritual life.
