From May through September, people will be able to enjoy some of the Pacific Northwest’s greatest fishing. Our fishing charters are on 22 & 24-ft ocean going fishing vessels. All gear will be provided including lures, bait, downriggers and rods, but don’t let this slow you down! If you’d like to bring your own special rod or gear please feel welcome!
Species
While fishing in the main season we will be fishing for Chinook (spring), Coho, Pink, Chum, Sockeye, Halibut, Rockfish and snapper. Saltwater flyfishing is becoming a favorite for many people and is great in the Tofino area.
What to Bring
The temperature can change quickly out there, so please dress in layers. Survival suits will be provided. Also, the sun’s rays can be intensified by reflection off the water so remember your sunscreen. You may also want to bring a snack and something to drink. If you think you may be prone to seasickness you may want to check with the local drug store for any possible solutions (we find a couple gravel one hour before departure often works for us.).
Winter Fishing
When the winter seas permit us to go out we find winter springs (Chinook), Coho, rockfish and the occasional halibut. We often fish in the more sheltered waters along the shorelines of the Sound. It’s a relaxing trip, but can get cold so bundle up!
What to do with your fish before heading home
Your guide will clean your fish and provide a bag for transporting the fish. You will need to pack your fish on ice in a cooler if your planning on storing it for any length of time. The Trilogy Fish Company will cut, freeze and vacuum pack your fish for (1999 prices) $1.50lb and have it ready the following day for travel. They can also provide hot smoking and vacuum bagging for $3.25/lb. Shipping is also available. For more details visit their store upon arrival.
Fishing License & Limits
If your charter departs before 8:00am, you will need to purchase a salt water fishing license at Method Marine at 380 Main Street. If your charter departs later than 8:00, arrive at the dock a half an hour before your official departure time and your guide will be happy to take you by Method Marine to purchase your license. So arrangements will be made to accommodate the clients. The fish limits change from year to year but there is always lots to catch. The following is the 1999 catch limits.
