Mountain Biking - Our Passion

Trails and Terrain

Vancouver Island and the surrounding islands offer some of the best and most varied bike trails in the world, and mountain biking is a year-round indulgence here. We are known, typically, for our technical rain forest singletrack, characterized by BIG trees, logs, roots, rocks, and other interesting obstacles, not to mention the variety of stunning scenery, and plant and wildlife. We offer a range of tours which hilight the ecology and the culture of our unique region.

The main objective of our tours is to ride, have fun, and meet new friends. We cater to an international clientele, and we hope to provide you with further insight into the nature and culture of Vancouver Island, and give you an opportunity to improve upon your technical riding skills. Our tours are not designed to test your endurance; the pace, typically, is a leisurely one, with frequent stops for rests, snacks, and to just take in our surroundings. If the weather and time permits, we will take shorter hikes to particular points of interest along the way, go for a swim, or even take you on a white water tubing trip.

Tours

The "Explorer" Program

Because mountain biking can be a 'dirty' sport, we have chosen hotel accommodations for this program so that we're assured of a hot shower and a comfortable sleep. To maximize flexibility, we'll eat at selected restaurants and pub-style restaurants, but we will pack an occasional lunch and snacks. Tour prices do not include meals; expect to pay about can$35.- per person per day for food, not including alcoholic beverages.

Our hotels are generally located close to town centers and beaches so that anyone can explore on their own, and options are available to those who may chose to pass on the odd ride. Typically we do two 2-4 hour rides per day, and our support van is never very far away.

The Vancouver Island Explorer

After a daytrip out to Tofino and long beach on the west coast of the island, where we may go whale watching or kayaking, the trails become more technical as we move further north to the Comox Valley, one of Canada's "mountain bike meccas". Here we'll explore some of the most beautiful rivers, lakes, mountains and beaches that the island has to offer, and weather permitting, we'll take you on a white water tubing tour.

Our van will take us to the various trailheads around Courtenay and Campbell River, which boast some of the finest Vancouver Island has to offer. Also part of the "Explorer Program", this 3 day singletrack extravaganza explores Vancouver Island's most renown singletrack in the Comox Valley, Campbell River, and on Hornby Island. Our base for the three days will be in Courtenay, the 'recreation capital' of Canada, where many other activities and excursions are easily accessible. The hilights of this tour include exploring the diverse ecosystems of this area - mountains, glaciers, rivers, lakes, beaches, rain forests, and more, and experiencing the unique character of Denman and Hornby islands, which in large part have been shaped by a dedicated mountain biking community. This is the kind of singletrack around which the original designers of Rocky Mountain, Brodie, and Kona built their bikes. If you love singletrack come on over, ride the bridge on the photo, and visit our local sea lion community!
