THE
WEST COAST VALUE-ADDED
WOOD
INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION
|
Founded
in 1996 as a non-profit society, the stated purpose of the Association
is to
Build
a strong value-added business sector by encouraging local manufacturing
and exploring new techniques as well as product lines;
Strengthen
the local communities by hiring locally, buying locally, and training local
people in new skills;
Diversify
the local forest industry by using new species, such as alder, and alternative
forest products;
Provide
a forum for local woodworkers to work together to define and achieve common
goals.
Perhaps
even more important than the stated goals of their Charter the members
have come together and defined the values that will serve as the driving
force of the Association. They share a belief that the Association will
find its shape and fulfill its purpose by working together, sharing ideas
and resources, and relying on each other.
In
addition, the members are committed to establishing new partnerships throughout
the region, and believe that a strong value-added sector is both a key
to a sustainable community economy and an extension of the area's forestry
heritage.
