Giuseppe (Joey) Pietraroia
Giuseppe Pietraroia is Conductor-in-Residence for Pacific Opera Victoria and the Victoria Symphony as well as Music Director of the Victoria Choral Society. As a guest conductor he has been engaged by Orchestra London, Hamilton Philharmonic, Okanagan Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, l'Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal, Lachine Music Festival in Montreal and Opera New Brunswick.
He served as assistant conductor for the 1996 production of Faust presented by Opera Lyra of Ottawa, as well as several Pacific Opera Victoria productions, including Un Ballo in Maschera, Tosca, Werther, and conducted their productions of Il Barbiere Di Siviglia, La Traviata, La Boheme, Lucia di Lammermoor, Norma, Rigoletto and Manon Lescaut.
The 2007-2008 season includes several concerts with the Victoria Symphony and the Victoria Choral Society as well as conducting Pacific Opera Victoria's production of Madama Butterfly. Other highlights are a return to Opera New Brunswick for a production of La Traviata and a debut with l'Opéra de Montréal for their production of Madama Butterfly.
Giuseppe Pietraroia is the recipient of the George and Jane Heffelfinger Pacific Opera Victoria Artist of the Year Award for 2003-04 and the Canada Council's Jean-Marie Beaudet Award in Orchestral Conducting for 2005.
